Valaree Schwab, a junior at the high school, was stabbed outside of Dunkin’ Donuts on North Avenue on Wednesday afternoon during a dispute with another student. She was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, police said, but was pronounced dead there.

On Thursday, police increased their patrols and presence around the campus amid alleged threats made on social media overnight.

According to police, officers responded to the scene shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, where there were reports of a fight involving multiple high school-aged students. During the dispute, Schwab suffered a stab wound in her torso.

A suspect has been identified, police said, but no identity has been released. Grief counselors were made available to students on Thursday by the school district.

“Our hearts go out to all who have been touched by this tragic occurrence,” district officials said in a statement. “This is a devastating loss for our school community, and our deepest condolences go out to Valaree’s family and friends.”

City and school officials are expected to release additional information during a joint news conference on Thursday afternoon.

The incident remains under active investigation. Anyone with information regarding the fight or stabbing have been asked to contact the New Rochelle Police Department's General Investigations Unit by calling (914) 654-2270.
